LAMPHEY II v BURTON III 27/8/11
Match
Sponsored by
Lamphey II (196 for 7) by Burton III (91) by 105 runs
The final game of the season saw the Stags take on Burton IIIs with the
possibility of leapfrogging the visitors with a win. With the end of
the season in sight team selection was proving somewhat of a headache
and as a result meant the Stags 2nd XI could only put out 9 players.
This sentiment was echoed by Burton however who turned up with one man
less - the game a 9 versus 8 competition instead of the normal 11 v 11
affair.
With Lamphey batting first Tom Powell found himself opening with Scott
Brunton. Powell departed for 4 to bring Nathan Mounter to the crease.
Mounter supported Brunton ably smashing a good 26 (inc 1x6) as the pair
put the runs on the board - even running 4s to the Burton fielders -
before he was out. Tim Sharpe has proved to be an excellent addition to
the side this season and chipped in with 11 before he was out. Seppe
Trimarco playing in the 2nds due to work commitments chipped in with 12
and Jeff Moseley in at 6 kept the scorebook looking good with 15.
Brunton was then joined by his father and the pair pushed one another
with Brunton bringing up his maiden 50 for the club; his old man was
wasting no time in punishing the bowling hitting 3x6s in an innings of
49. His fun only coming to an end after being given out LBW by his son
after he had departed for an
excellent 61. The innings ended with Hathaway 1 not out and Mal
Llewellyn 0 not out as the Stags rattled up an impressive 196.
The Lamphey bowling of Brunton, Cole and Llewellyn proved to be too
much for the visitors who although did provide somewhat of a fight were
finally dismissed for 91. Brunton impressive again with the ball as he
took 4, Cole 2 and Llewellyn 1 (to finish leading wicket taker for the
2nds just fending off Brunton). Perhaps the visitors reply would have
been lower had a number of catches not been put down. However another
victory for the Stags 2nd string to enjoy and a very encouraging end to
the season. The last 5 games yielded 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat which
shows that despite not always having a full team they can compete and
this with a couple iof additions will stand the team in good stead
for 2012.
Star Man - Scott Brunton - 3rd week in a row - his maiden 50 for the club and 4 wickets make it hard to give the award to any one else.
