LAMPHEY II v LLANGWM III 31/5/08
Match sponsored by
Lamphey II (17) lost to Llangwm III (160) by 143 runs
10 Man
Lamphey entertained an in form Llangwm III side on Saturday who took to
the field with only 9 men themselves. The result was an emphatic
victory for the visitors who cruised to a crushing 143 run victory.
With Lamphey shorn of
players in both sides the 2nd XI were hit with the loss of
inspirational Skipper Skeels, who was called up for first team duty
alongside Tim Bourne and Jason Griffiths who both had work
committments. This meant only 10 players were available including a
senior Lamphey debut for 12 year old Scott Brunton, following in the
footsteps of stalwart father Haydn Cole.
Another first saw 13 year old James Skeels captain the side in his
fathers absence. Unfortunately after putting Llangwm into bat first the
day was not to get any better as the visitors racked up 160 before
their innings closed. Wickets were shared around as Barry Dilworth
claimed his first 5 wicket haul for the stags with James Skeels and
Guisseppe Trimarco chipping in with 2 and 1 wicket respectively.
A daunting score was made even more difficult by some tight bowling and
with wickets falling at regular intervals only 3 Lamphey players
actually managed to get off the mark - Scott Duffy (7), James Skeels
(4) and Scott Brunton (1 not out).
A poor result however with players returning next saturday a result
which will be put to the back of the 2nd XI players minds as they
continue their sixth division campaign.
Star Man - Barry Dilworth - His first 5 wicket haul the only highlight on a day to forget.
LAMPHEY v KILGETTY II

WELL HILL GARAGE
Lamphey II entertained Kilgetty II for this
first time at Lamphey on Saturday. A fine performance from a youthful side saw
the Stags second string complete an impressive 7 wicket victory over the
visitors.
With
Skipper Skeels absent for this encounter, Vice Captain Tim Bourne tossed with
his counterpart and despite winning the toss Kilgetty chose to bat. With
seasoned campaigner Jason Griffiths opening the attack it wasnt long before he
had the visitors in trouble. With wickets falling at regular intervals the home
side were firmly in the driving seat as Griffiths completed his 12 overs taking
6 wickets for 22 runs. Bowling from the other end teenager James Skeels bowled
with precision as he impressively bowled 10 overs for 12 runs taking 3 wickets.
Despite a brief display of resistance from M Beynon and an accomplished 37 from
teenager K Marsh, the final Kilgetty wicket fell to Barry Dilworth as the home
side bowled out the visitors for a gettable 94.
In
recent weeks Lamphey have turned to youth to open the batting and with some
positive results there is evidence that they are begining to flourish and grow
in belief. With teenagers Gethin Llewellyn and Guisseppe TriMarco given the
responsibility, the pair advanced the score to 10 before Llewellyn was dismissed
for 10. Barry Dilworth playing his first game of the season played with
confidence and the home side progressed to 28 before he became victim number 2
out for 12. James Skeels in at 4 and with the score on 30 he was adjudged LBW
and out for 0. Jason Griffiths joined Guisseppe with the home side still needing
another 65 to win but any fears the Stags had were laid to rest as Guisseppe
played his finest ever innings in a great knock of 46 not out whilst being
supported all the way by Griffiths who finished on 16 no including a massive
straight 6 to lead Haydn Cole 3-1 in the most sixes competition.
A great
morale boosting result for the 2nd XI who have taken the right steps in giving
the juniors their chance to shine. Division 6 may not be everyones cup of tea
but its an ideal starting point for the youngsters to build their game. With the
senior players nurturing their talents its hopeful that in the next few seasons
these juniors will make the step up to the 1st XI.
Star
Man - Guisseppe TriMarco - An excellent
match winning batting display from the youngster who will hopefully take this
form forward.

PEMBROKE DOCK II v LAMPHEY II 10/5/08

Lamphey II (163 for 9) drew with Pembroke Dock II (148 for 8)
Lamphey
2nds were boosted by the return of several key players for
Saturdays trip to local rivals Pembroke Dock and returned
home with the lions share of the points after a closely fought match.
Batting first Lamphey were keen
to put behind the disappointment of the 9 wicket defeat the previous
week and things got off to a good start with the new opening
partnership of Skeels senior and young Guisseppe TriMarco who had top
scored in his last innings. Guisseppe had played with confidence
throughout his innings which was epitomsed by his last scoring shot
being a well struck 6, however maybe a lack of experience followed as
he was then out without adding to the score. In at 3 was Gethin
Llewellyn who made his way to 7 before becoming the next victim. With
Skeels still at the crease he was joined by the talented Lewis Haines
who whilst unable to play for the 1st XI slipped down into the seconds.
With Skeels being the 3rd Lamphey player out for 26, Haines was joined
in the middle by Jason Griffiths who with Haines punished the home
sides bowling attack dispatching the bad ball with aplomb. Both Lewis
and Jason made their way into the 30s with Lewis finally out for 35
being soon followed by Jason who top scored with a useful 39 which
included 2 sixes. James Skeels in at 6 continued the good work by
adding 18 along with Chris Forth who was out last ball for 10, at the
end of the innings Lamphey had reached a very useful 163 for 9.
With the cushion of a score in excess of 150 Lamphey knew they would do
well to throw away a result and so it was proved with skipper
Skeels slipping back into the old routine by claiming 5 for 47, along
with one wicket a piece for James, Guisseppe and Graham 'pies' purser.
In the field a mention must go out to James who took an excellent
caught and bowled, almost taking the catch under the nose of the
batsman as well as to Gethin who took two catch, one in particular
which was pretty impressive and also to Geoff Daye who hadnt up until 2
years ago kept in his life but still managed to take an excellent full
length catch. In amongst all this action the home side made a brave
effort to overhaul the Lamphey total with useful knocks from L Murray
(44), J Hartt (25) and J Coles 13 not out but just falling short at the
final hudle.
A very welcome winning draw for the Stags second string and if they can
keep this side together for the majority of the season could well be up
there challenging for promotion come August.
Star Man - Andrew Skeels - a vital cog in the side and seems to have carried on from where he left off last season
LAMPHEY v STACKPOLE
Match
sponsored by
Lamphey II (44 all out) lost to Stackpole II (45 for 1) by 9 wickets
With
the home side only able to field 9 players - due to the Club amazingly
having a whole XI unavailable- it was no surprise that the result of
this game ended in defeat for Lamphey.
Batting first Lamphey knew
that with only 9 players they would need to post a respectable score if
they were to present anything of a challenge. Things didnt get off to
the best of starts when stand in skipper Tim Bourne was dismissed for
0. However with youngster Gethin Llewellyn being joined at the crease
by fellow teenager Guisseppe TriMarco the pair steadily pushed up
the run rate, testament to the fact that neither of them usually bat so
high. With the score on 38 Llewellyn was dismissed for a personal best
senior score of 16. This however acted as a catalyst and with Llewellyn
gone TriMarco was then out for his personal senior best of 18. The
experienced Kathryn 'buggy' James causing mass carnage as she finished
with figures of 5 for 4 and Lamphey pressed the self destruct button
going from 38 for 2 to 44 all out.
With little to bowl at, the home side still made Stackpole work for the
runs and some decent bowling from Chris Forth and Guisseppe TriMarco
was rewarded when Graham 'Pies' Purser took the only wicket of the game
as Stackpole reached their target with 9 wickets remaining.
With the possibility of upto 6 players returning to strengthen the team
next week the side will be confient of going to Pembroke Dock and
getting a result.
Star Man - well men, well boys really - Gethin Llewellyn & Guisseppe TriMarco - starting to fulfil their potential, the future looks promising.
