BURTON III V LAMPHEY II 18/6/11

                THE HOPE INN

Burton III (282 for 8) beat Lamphey (79) by 203 runs

After putting on a terrific performance in the cup only 2 days previous the Stags travelled to bottom of the table Burton confident of a positive result. However things didnt go to plan as the home side wracked up a mammoth 282 off 40 over. As big a score this may have been in reality the game was played on the 'postage stamp' it was enough to see the Stags fall to a 200+ run defeat.

Batting first the home side to full advantage of the Lamphey bowling attack, in particular D Ridge who score 127 along with Gardner (30) and B Lewis (25). For the visitors the reliable Mal Llewellyn took 3 for 48 and there were wickets apiece for Lawrence, Carroll and Moseley. There were 3 catches in the innings, one each for Lawrence, Gethin Llewellyn and debutant Alex Jeffrey

Batting 2nd the Stags never troubled the home side as only two players reached double figures. Martyn Carroll continued his good form with the bat to top score with 19, Hadyn Cole chipped in with 13 and there were 3 players with 8 a piece  - Lawrence, Daye and Llewellyn.

A long day in the field for little success, the Stags have extra time to lick their wounds this Saturday as its their turn for the bye, however they will be looking to put in a much improved showing once the second half of the season gets underway.

Star Man - Mal Llewellyn - continues to lead the line with the ball.

Hook II (109 for 4) beat Lamphey II (108) by 6 Wickets

Lamphey travelled to 4th division Hook for this Alec Colley cup match with no one really expecting an upset. However the home side was made to work all the way for the victory and the 6 wicket win wasnt as flattering as it seemed.

Batting first the stags totalled 108 before being bowled out. Dean Lawrence opened and top scored with 31 and was ably supported by Martin Carroll who scored 16 and Lewis Haines who chipped in with 11.

The home side were made to work hard for the victory though and only reached their target in the last over of the game having J Britton to thank as he steered them home with an unbeaten 41. For the Stags Martyn Carroll took all 4 wickets himself as he either bowled the opposition or trapped them LBW.

A great performance from the Stags against a side 2 division higher. With the result of the game in the balance until the very end skipper Geoff Daye can be proud of the 11 players who took the field.

Star Man - Martyn Carroll - The teenager chipped in with valuable runs before taking 4 wickets with the ball.

LAMPHEY II v HUNDLETON II 11/6/11

                                                                                                Match Sponsored by

                                WELL HILL GARAGE

Lamphey II (146 for 6) drew with Hundleton II (164 for 9)

The betting man could have probably got short odds on the result of this game being a draw as draw specialists Hundleton rolled into town. With 4 draws to date this game was destined to head the same way although the Stags could of and probably should have won this game after falling just 19 runs short after batting their alloted 40 overs.

The game saw Hundleton bat first and restricted to 164 off their allocated 40 overs. For the home side debutant Dean Lawrence, signed from Hundleton, took 3 for 30 with 2 apiece for Hadyn Cole and Mal Llewellyn and 1 each for youngsters Luca Trimarco and Martyn Carroll.

Lamphey undaunted by the task at hand took on the challenge and the opening pair of Moseley (22) and Luca Trimarco - who scored his maiden 50 for the club at the age of 16  - chipped in with 61 giving the Stags an excellent platform to build on. Martyn Carroll chipped in with 6 and the returning Gethin Llewellyn scored a patient 20. With the victory in the offing Nathan Mounter produced a cameo which saw a big 6 hit before he departed for 9 and Haydn Cole scored 9 also. With the overs running out Dean Lawrence finished 5 not out and Jason Donohoe 0 not out denying the Stags their 2nd victory of the season.

A losing draw the result of a good days cricket. The Stags will be pleased with their efforts and the acquisition of Lawrence and the return of Trimarco and Llewellyn junior to the side will go on to strengthen

Star Man - Luca Trimarco - The 16 year old showed he has the potential by registering his maiden 50 for the club, scoring 61 before departing.

LLECHRYD II v LAMPHEY II 4/6/11

Llechryd (49 for 0) beat Lamphey II (48) by 10 wickets

Lamphey IIs travelled to Ceredigion for this Pembrokeshire league match on Saturday. The writing may have been on the wall before a ball had been bowled in this match as the side was hit hard by late withdrawls meaning players having to be drafted in and still only managing to take 10 for the trip.

The Stags batted first adding 10 for the 1st wicket before Moseley departed for 6, 17 runs later it was 2 as Brunton departed for 12. 17 runs later and with the score on 44 Lamphey lost their 3rd wicket, Caroll departing for 23. A collapse of epic proportions then ensued as the Stags then lost their last 7 wickets for just 1 run - going from 47 for 4 to 48 all out. For the home side L Robertson and R Davies both took 4 each.

The home side knocked the runs off in just 9.4 overs as both Lumb and Smith finished on 19 a piece despite some efficient bowling from Brunton, Llewellyn and Carroll.

A result the Stags will want to forget about before their home game with draw specialists Hundleton on Saturday. With hope a number of key players will be available to strengthen the side as they look to rise to the challenge.

Star Man - Martyn Carroll - The youngster showed how to bat with his top score (23) in the Stags shirt.
