LAMPHEY
v HAVERFORDWEST
Haverfordwest (100 for 6)
lost to Lamphey (101 for 4) by 6 wickets
(Match
report by Hywel Gibbs)
Lamphey’s
record of
chasing down totals has been less than impressive ever since Australian
great
Dave Lovell returned down under seven years ago. As recently as this
season the
first team succumbed to the jitters when responding to
Stackpole’s meagre 124 even
though they were well placed at 92 for 2 at one stage, to be bowled out
for
114.
Fortunately, a
band
of youngsters look certain to buck that trend in the years ahead after
the
village’s under 15 team won the Pembrokeshire league title
despite re-forming
after a seven year hiatus. In defeating Haverfordwest by six wickets
with two
overs to spare, the team, led by Gianluca Tremarco and under the
tutelage of
Jason Oatley, managed to put any doubts and nerves behind them to
provide the
club with the only silverware they will receive all year.
With an
unbeaten
record in the lead up to the final, Haverfordwest would have started as
favourites and their star players Josh Hicks and Ashley James showed
why.
Opener Hicks looked a solid figure at the crease as he stroked a
powerful 30
while James, batting at three, looked equally as comfortable in his 27.
Runs were
flowing
so easily at one stage it appeared the Town may score a total well in
excess of
100 yet Rob Hearne dismissed both as part of his 3 for 25 haul to stem
the flow
of runs and bring Lamphey into the game. Although Hearne starred with
the ball,
Tremarco was instrumental in Haverfordwest’s slowing run rate
as he took three
catches in addition to his figures of 1 for 6 earlier on.
Jack Price
chipped
in with 1 for 12 and Rhys Miller 1 for 11 at the end.
James and
Hicks
opened the bowling for the Town and conceded just one boundary between
them yet
they went for a combined total of 39 as Tremarco and Ben Adams ran
brilliantly
between the wickets. The first four didn’t materialise in
Lamphey’s reply until
the fourth over yet ones were turned into twos as they pushed the
fielders
hard.
They put on 26
for
the first wickets before Adams went for 14 and when Tremarco left soon
after
the nerves started fluttering when Jack Price was dismissed for just
four runs.
Lamphey needed
a
solid partnership and they got it in the form of Scott Brunton and
Miller.
Brunton, despite having another year left at this age group showed
great
composure as he struck 27 with three boundaries to his name, while
Miller, Mr Dependable
in the middle order was unbeaten at the end with 24, an innings that
included 4
fours, three off consecutive balls as the finish drew closer.
Their fourth
wicket
partnership of 64 was broken with just three runs needed for victory as
Brunton
was bowled yet Miller, who was joined by Tom Powell at the close, hit
the
winning runs in the next over.
Coach Jason
Oatley,
who has played in numerous football and cricket finals over the years
was
overjoyed with the result and ranks this right up there with everything
he has
achieved in sport.
“It’s
brilliant. To
re-form a junior side after so many years and win it at the first
attempt is a
great feeling. These lads have performed brilliantly all season and
only lost
one game in the lead up to the play-offs. There are some good young
players in
this team and they deserve this success.”

LAMPHEY
v KILGETTY
Lamphey
entertained Kilgetty in this latest game knowing that victory could
very well seal the zonal division title and a playoff against the other
zonal winners for top Pembrokeshire U15s team.
After inviting the visitors to bat wickets fell at regular intervals as
the bowling of Scott Brunton (4 for 6 off 4 overs) and Ben
Adams
(3 for 3 off 4 overs) proved too hot to handle. All 5 Lamphey bowlers
bowled well and it was no surprise that the visitors could only muster
51 off their allocated 20 overs.
With this being the lowest total Lamphey have had to chase this season
things looked positive. Trimarco and Adams opened the batting however
Lamphey were to lose the wicket of Adams for 5 as he was bowled.
However at the other end Trimarco was going great guns and seemingly
scoring for fun. With only a few runs to win Cyle Weatherall went into
bat a no3. A 9 wicket win was completed as Trimarco finished on 37 not
out and Weatherall on 3 not out.
Another good team result where everyone can be pleased with their
contribution, Skipper Trimarco led from the front with the bat and Ben
Adams will be pleased with his 3 wickets however this weeks man of the
match award goes to Scott
Brunton for his great spell of bowling and 4 wickets
LLECHRYD
v LAMPHEY
Lamphey
travelled to Llechryd for this top of the table clash. Both sides with
only one defeat in the season and knowing that victory would
be crucial if they were to advance to the final.
Batting first Lamphey got off to the worst possible start. John Curran
the home sides star player caused havoc as wickets tumbled. Openers
Trimarco and Admas departed for 0 and 3 respectively. Cremin in at 3
scored 1 and Price in at 5 came and went without scoring. At this stage
things werent looking pretty as the Stags were rocked back at 5 for 4.
However Rhys Miller and Scott Brunton made sure that they saw off the
dangerous Curran and from then on things got a little easier. Miller
took advantage of Currans departure and started to milk the runs off
the other home side bowlers. After all his hard work Brunton was the
next to depart out for 6. Tom Powell in at 7 provided a great foil to
Miller and did well to reach 12 before he was caught. With Miller going
great guns the Stags were able to call on Rob Hearne at no.8. Not be
outshone by Miller he showed what he could do as he set about the
bowling smashing a massive 6. With Miller now well into his rhythym he
too smashed a massive straight six to keep the runs ticking along
nicley. Hearne on 18 then became the next player to depart as his cameo
ended. Cyle Weatherall added a couple before he was caught however
there was just enough time for Miller to bring up his first Lamphey 50
as he struck a massive six through the mid wicket area to see the team
finish on 118 for 8 off their allocated 20 overs.
Llechryd put up a valiant effort to chase down the total, however once
Curran had departed perhaps so did their hopes of victory. Lamphey
chopped and changed the bowling attack using no less than 7 bowlers,
all of whom did well to contain the runs as 5 of the 7 picked up
wickets. Price leading the way with 2 and 1 each for Trimarco, Hearne,
Adams and Weatherall. At the end of the innings the home side finished
on 71 for 8 and giving the stags a well deserved 47 run
victory.
A great recovery from the Stags shows the ability that runs through the
side however at 5 for 4 things could have been a lot different
and the side must be indebted to Rhys Miller who
remained undefeated on 53 and for this reason is this weeks man of the
match.
LAMPHEY
v SAUNDERSFOOT
Lamphey (93
for 7) beat Saundersfoot (83 for 8) by 10 runs
Lamphey
had a great knock of 32 not out by Jack Price to thank for this latest
victory. Batting first Lamphey got off to a slow start as Trimarco (5),
Miller (6) and Cremin (2) failed to get into to double figures. Opener
Ben Adams, the only other Lamphey player to get into double
figures, supported Price with a crucial 14. In the lower order Tom
Powell chipped in with 6 and Alex Jeffries scored 3 before he became
the second player to be run out. Mr Extras completed the run total as
he contributed a welcome 25 to the score.
For the visitors the bulk of their runs came from their 1st XI opener
who has shown to be a proven talent as he deals with the bowling of top
teams such as Care, Haverfordwest and Creselley week in week out. It
was no surprise then that he was the only batsman able to cope with the
Lamphey attack as he chipped in with 50. However as with the junior
league a player must then retire and only return after ever one else
has been in. This ruling worked to the advantage of the Lamphey team as
the opening pair of Trimarco (2 for 15) and Brunton (3 for 11) caused
big problems for the visitors and tight bowling from Price, Cremin and
Adams all helped apply the pressure. The victory was then
sealed as Miller claimed 3 for 8 off 2 overs to lead his side
to a
10 run victory.
Star Man - Jack Price
- A telling contribution with the bat and a tight spell of bowling
helped his side to a good win.
LAMPHEY
v STACKPOLE 21/7/10
Lamphey
(125 for 3) beat Stackpole (77) by 48 runs
A
top batting display by the young 'bucks' saw Lamphey to a convincing
win over their local rivals. For the home side Luca Trimarco and Ben
Adams got the side off to a flier as they scored 20 and 31
respectively. Dan Cremin in at 3 scored 1 before departing. Rhys Miller
in at four batting superbly to score 41 not out, Jack Price was run out
for 1 and Tom Powell saw the innings to an end with Miller with 4 not
out.
A great spell of bowling restricted the visitors early on as Trimarco
and Cremin only conceeded 21 off the first 6 overs. Trimarco taking 1
wicket in the process. The key masterstroke however was the
introduction of Ben Adams to the attack and he promptly took 5
for
15 off his 4 over spell ably supported by Jack Price - only 8 conceeded
off 4 and there were further wickets for Joe Powell 2 for 6 off 3 and
Rob John who finished the game to give the home side the win with his
first ball.
A top team performance with many contributors however with 31 runs and
5 wickets this weeks Star Man is Ben
Adams
NARBERTH
v LAMPHEY 29/6/10
Narberth
beat Lamphey by 8 wickets
On
a wet wicket Lamphey lost the toss and were invited to bat.
The Junior
Stags lost an early wicket, with the score only on 7, with Ben Adams
being
caught out off the bowling of C. Phillips for a duck. In at 3 came Jack
Price
and he and Luca Trimarco advanced the score to 31 until Jack holed out
to a
fielder for a useful 10 runs. In next came Dan Cremin who scored 3 runs
before
being bowled by D. Hughes. In next was Rhys Miller and the runs started
to flow
a little bit easier, until Luca was caught for a creditable
30 runs. Next in
came Rob Hearn who hit a boundry before being bowled for four runs.
Alex
Jefferys then came into join Rhys, and with out any loss of wicket took
the
score to a very decent 110 off their allotted overs on a very damp
wicket. Alex
ended up on 4 not out and Rhys with 36 not out including four 4's and a
massive
six.
Lamphey tried hard to defend
this total, but to no avail as the highly talented
Jordan Hughes smashed the ball all around the ground to score a quick
fire 50,
and assisted brilliantly by D Hughes who was unbeaten on 38. This was
to be
fair a pretty average display in the field and with the ball, and
Narberth
deserved this victory, passing Lampheys total in the 18th over.
Star
man goes to Rhys Miller with a top knock of 36 not out
CAREW
v LAMPHEY 16/6/10
Carew (76 for 8) lost to Lamphey (101 for 6) by 25 runs
Match report by J Oatley
This
week saw Lamphey under 15's travel to carew for what was an eagerly
anticipated match. Carew won the toss and elected to field first.
Skipper Luca Trimarco and Ben Adams walked out to the crease on a very
hot evening starting off steadily, but in the fourth over, with the
score on 7, Lamphey lost Ben Adams who was bowled by a peach of a
delivery by J. Harris. In at three came Dan Cremin, but after he had
scored 4 runs he had to retire due to a back injury. Rees Miller came
in to replace Dan and the score started to move on a bit swifter now,
but after playing two sumptuous fours, skipper Luca attempted one big
hit too many and cross batted a delivery from M. Scourfield
who
removed the off stump after scoring 14. In at five came Jack Price, and
with Miller they started to steady the ship.
These
two at the crease took their time, and played the ball around nicely
picking up one's and two's. Jack price batted superbly to frustrate the
Carew bowlers, scoring a tremendous 21 before being bowled by S.
Whitfield. Robert Hearn then joined Miller at the crease but was
brilliantly caught at deep mid wicket for 8 runs including a beautiful
4 throught mid off. Tom Powell in at 7 was bowled by J. Harris for a
duck. In at number 8 came Alex Jefferies, who has never batted or
played cricket in his entire life, but to the delight of his team mates
and his father who was watching the game, stroked the ball round nicely
and ended up with 8 not out. Rhys Miller then was caught out off the
bowling of I. Lesnianski for a well executed 18. To finish up the last
over Dan Cremin came back to the crease with a runner and the team
finaly ended up on 101 for 6 wickets.
Lamphey
knew they
would have to work hard in the field to defend this total - against a
strong Carew batting line up - Luca opened the bowling with Robert
Hearn. Carew started of off very strongly and pushed the ball around
nicely, with T. Scoufield looking a class act. But in the fifth over
Luca got the breakthrough by bowling T. Lewis with a very quick ball.
S. Whitfield came in at three and with Scourfield started building the
score up very rapidly. A change of bowling at both ends brought Jack
Price and and Rhys Miller on, and these two started to stem the runs a
bit and brought Lamphey back into the game. The dangerous Scourfield was
then caught off the brilliant bowling of Price, and the
game hung
in the balance with both sides knowing the game was there for the
taking. Ben Adams and Dan Cremin Both bowled very well and over the
next few overs Lamphey started making good progress in restricting runs
for Carew.
The
whole Lamphey team fielded well, as usual it has to be said and with
the brilliant spirit and camaradrie in the team, Lamphey restricted
Carew to 76 for 8 off their allotted 20 overs. That now makes three
wins out of three, and the team are looking a solid unit and
if they continue to play with so much team spirit and work together
like they are, then the season could just be a little bit special for
the Club and the Lads.
Man
of the match was quite a difficult one to pick this week, with some top
performances from the lads, also Alex Jefferies scoring his first ever
runs in a match, But this week the man of the match goes to Jack Price for an
outstanding contribution with the bat and ball.
LAMPHEY
v PEMBROKE DOCK 26/5/10
Lamphey (97
for 9) beat Pembroke Dock (94) by 3 runs
match report by J Oatley
After
winning their first game of the season against Crymych, the young Stags
were
brimming with confidence for this encounter against local rivals
Pembroke Dock
at a beautiful looking Lamphey pitch, with not only league points up
for grabs,
but bragging rights in school the next day.
As in the first game of
the season, Luca Trimarco lost the toss, with Pembroke
Dock electing to field first. Luca and the impressive Ben Adams opened
up the
batting against the quick pace of D. Heeps, who showed why he is a
regular in
Pembroke Dock senior first eleven. The young Stags pushed a few
singles, then
with the score on 12, Luca played across the line to a straight ball
off N.
Brunton and looked back to see his middle stump on the ground. In at
three came
Dan Cremin, but with the pace of Heeps keeping the batsmen on the back
foot,
Lamphey lost the wicket of Ben Adams for a duck with the score still on
12. In
at four came Rhys Miller who with Cremin set about the task ahead and
played
some wonderful shots to progress the score to 35, before Miller was
bowled by
B. Wood, for a wonderful knock of 14.
In at number five came Rob Hearn, who
lasted only a few balls before being
caught out for 4. Tom Powell came in next and gave as much strike to
Cremin as possible,
but then was also caught out for 1 run. Joe Powell next to the crease
didnt
last long as he also went for a duck. Cremin continued to play some
tremendous
shots, and kept the score flowing, as he was joined by Jack Price, Jack
became
the next victim being caught off the bowling of M. Carroll. Cyle
Weatherall
joined Cremin at the crease before Cremin was caught out for a
fantastic knock
of 40, much to his team mates delight, Lamphey ended the innings on 97.
A
decent total, but one Lamphey know they can improve on.
After the interval, the young Stags set
about
the task of restricting Pembroke
Dock as much as possible. Luca opening the bowling with good pace, and
Rob
Hearn, bowling a nice tight line, but a solid start from the opening
pair of T.
Greenwood and J. Griffiths pushed the score onto 20. Dan Cremin came
onto to
replace Luca at the Railway end, and soon took the first wicket of
Greenwood. Rhys Miller replaced Hearn and also took a quick wicket.
Lamphey
fielded well, and took catches at regular intervals. Miller continued
to bowl a
tight line, which showed in his end figures of 4 overs 2 maidens 1 for
6. Jack
price came on and showed his quality with some straight, accurate
bowling and
the runs started to dry up for the Dock.
The game ebbed and flowed between both
sides, and eventually it boiled down the
last over, with the Dock requiring 6 runs to win. A little
chat took place between the skipper, Luca and a couple of the bowlers.
In
the end Rob Hearn stated that he was well up for it, so stepped up to
the
plate, with a fair size crowd waiting in anticipation. Rob bowled his
first
ball, which was pushed for 2 runs, and by now most teams would have
buckled
under the pressure, but good captaincy and tremendous belief amongst
the
fielders, the voices were loud from the Young Stags, encouraging each
other and
the bowler. The next ball saw the Dock attempt a quick single, but with
some
impressive fielding and a quick bit of keeping from Tom Powell, L.
thompson was
run out. Rob showed the class he has with tight bowling for the next
couple of
balls, and on his fifth delivery he dissmissed K. Wright with a caught
behind
to seal victory for Lamphey.
A tremendous performance once again from
the young Stags, and a good crowd watching,
the delight was there to seen by everyone whilst still showing respect
at the
end of the game, which to be fair could have gone either way.
A great performance by
the young Stags, which gives them 2 wins out of 2, Next
opponents will be Saundersfoot, which will be a bit trickier, but if
the lads
keep working as a team, and keep enjoying their cricket, they will do
very well.
Man Of The Match was a close
call, Rob Hearn was outstanding in the last over
with so much pressure on him, he kept his composure and steered Lamphey
to
victory, but the man of the match this week goes to Dan Cremin, for his
outstanding 40 runs with the bat.
CRYMYCH V LAMPHEY 12/5/10
Crymych (49
for 7) lost to Lamphey (82 for 8) by 33 runs
match report by J Oatley
It
was
a warm summer evening up at Crymych and with the pitch in such
fantastic
condition, Lamphey under 15’s were looking forward to their
first game of the
season. The junior Stags skipper for this season, Luca Trimarco, went
out to
toss with his Crymych counterpart. Unfortunately as is often the way,
Luca lost
the toss, and the Crymych skipper elected to field first.
Luca
opened the batting with Ben Adams, and with the game in its first over
D. Jones
bowled a wonderful full delivery and removed the off stick of Luca for
a duck.
In to the crease at number three came Dan Cremin. Unfortunately, with
the score
on 8 D. Jones bowled Dan Cremin for 6 runs, much to the home
team’s delight.
Next in was Robert Hearn who lasted only a few balls before becoming D.
Jones’s
third victim for another duck. Next at the crease was R.
Miller, who
between himself and Ben Adams started to play some quality shots
however with
the score flowing nicely Crymych broke through again, this time a
straight ball
deceiving Miller and getting a successful LBW shout. Jack Price, TJ.
Powell, Joe
Powell all came and went very quickly after that and Cyle Weatherall
struck a
wonderful on side 4 before being dismissed. Rob John joined Ben in the
middle
however Ben was then given out LBW scoring a fantastic 23 from 17
overs, including
four 4’s. Alex
Jeffery, in his first
ever game of cricket, didn’t come into bat. Lamphey finished
their innings on
82 for 8.
After
a good chat during the interval, The junior Stags set themselves up in
the
field. Luca opened the bowling down the slope, and with fantastic pace
had the
Crymych opening pair on the back foot. With only 3 balls gone Luca
clean bowled
C. James for a 0. Rob Hearn came on the other end and with good line
and length
bowled a maiden. Crymych found getting runs from the opening bowling of
Trimarco & Hearn very difficult indeed. With the score on 7
Hearn struck,
J. Bentley out 0. Dan Cremin came on for Trimarco and in his first over
took
the wicket of T. Dugmore. With some impressive fielding and good banter
between
themselves, Crymych were restricted to the odd single here and there.
Rob John
bowled well without any luck in the wicket department. Joe Powell and
R. Miller
also bowled well, with Powell taking a wicket in his first game of
cricket, much
to his team mates delight and R. Miller getting 2 wickets. The junior
Stags
ended their bowling stint by restricting Crymych to 49 for 7 off their
20
overs.
A
tremendous performance by the Stags, with great fielding and good team
spirit
and they totally deserved their win. Man of the match has to go Ben
Adams, for
his brilliant batting display, but it should be said, there were 11
possible
man of the match out there.
Star Man
- Ben Adams
