LAMPHEY v CRESSELLY 1/6/11

Lamphey (50) lost to Cresselly  (74 for 5) by 24 runs

Cresselly came to Lamphey with a very strong side and with some experianced cricketers and this was only Lampheys second game of the season. Lamphey won the toss and elected to field. Cresselly kept the runs steady and with Lamphey bowling 20 wides Cresselly pushed a score on to finish with 74 for 5 wickets off 20 overs. Lamphey fielded well and some of the bowling was very tight as you can see from the following figures.

Lamphey started the batting and tried hard to chase the score but found it very difficult against the Cresselly bowling attack. Top scorer of the game for Lamphey was Ben Hathaway with 10. No other Lamphey batsman reached double figures and finally ended the innings on 50 all out.

Due to the fact the team are all new this year, it was still a valiant effort. With more matches and training to come, im sure we will gain a couple of victories before the end of the season.

STACKPOLE v LAMPHEY 16/5/11

Stackpole & Hundleton (90 for 4) beat Lamphey (30) by 60 runs

Lamphey won the toss and elected to field first. Geraint Blair opened the bowling with Gareth James and considering it was the first match for both players they bowled very well.

The Stackpole openers steadily pushed the runs with M. Adie in particular showing some class and retired after scoring a well deserved 30. Gareth James bowled a very tight line, making it hard for the bats to score. Geraint Blair also was unlucky in not getting a hatrick but 2 wickets in 2 balls is a tremendous effort.

Lamphey continued to work hard in the field and made bowling changes at regular intervals. Robert John and Ryan Boaner coming on next to bowl with both lads bowling a good line and kept the run rate down against a very strong Stackpole side. Daniel Marsh then came into the attack and showed some quality with some good accurate bowling. With one over to go and the score on 88 Lamphey brought Rebecca Newton - who has a strong cricket bond with Lamphey being the niece of Haydn Cole - into the attack and proved cricket should be played with boys and girls. In her over she only conceded 2 runs which was a tremendous effort as Stackpole were trying to smash the ball at this stage of the game.

Another Lamphey player to impress was Ben Hathaway behind the stumps; he was very sharp and only conceded 3 byes in the innings. In the end Stackpole finished with 90 runs for the loss of 4 wickets from their 20 allotted overs.

This was always going to be a hard run chase, but even though Lamphey managed to score only 30 with runs coming from Ben Hathaway (9) Gareth James (5) and the two Bucks (3) each, they committed themselves well and enjoyed every minute showing some good promise for the rest of the season.

All in all a good effort from the young Stags and with some more training and the continued effort they are showing they should go on to gain a couple of victories this season.
