Ms

Lamphey
travelled to Llandewi Vellfrey on saturday to play fellow strugglers
Narberth in a game which Lamphey knew they had to win and hope results
went in their favour to remain in division five. However despite a
personal best for the visitors of 6 for 31 from Chris Forth Lamphey had
to hang on for a losing draw which saw them relegated to division 6.
Winning the toss Lamphey put the home side into bat and the
reliable Skeels senior chipped in with 2 wickets, taking his seasons
tally to 45 and a superb bowling display from Chris Forth see him claim
his first 6 wicket haul for Lamphey whilst only conceeding 31 runs. For
the home side Emyr Jemkins notched 35 as Narberth III amassed 141 for 9
in their 40 overs.
Lampheys reply got off to a good start as skipper Skeels chipped in
with 26 and Jonathan Mathias made 18, however with no other batsman
really making a major contribution the Stags limped to 73 for 8 and
whilst securing a losing draw were consigned to the dreaded drop for
the 3rd season in a row.
Star Man - Chris Forth - The swing bowler caused Narberth problems with his movement to snap up a Lamphey personal best 6 for 31.

Lamphey
II XI now have a real battle on their hands to preserve their 5th
division status as an 84 run defeat coupled with victories for
Herbrandston and Burton exerts the pressure.
On
winning the toss Lamphey invited Whitland to bat. Lamphey bowled well
but several dropped catches meant that the home side closed their
innings on 122 for 6 off their 40 overs. James Skeels and the reliable
Andrew Dodds took two wickets apiece with the other two shared between
the experienced pair of skipper Skeels and Haydn Cole. Lamphey did
manage to hold 3 catches in the field with Geoff Daye taking a caught
behind and further catches for Cole and Robert Mathias making a welcome
if not too late a return after reconstructive knee surgery.
Lamphey have struggled to score runs this season and although 122 is a
fairly low score it proved too much for a Lamphey second XI shorn of
batting experience. Even the return of the prolific Mathias didnt help
as he opened and departed for 2. Skeels senior scored 12 and with no
other batsman making more than 5 (James Skeels) the visitors were
skittled for a lowly 38.
With Burton and Herbrandston winning it is imperative they get
something out of a difficult game on saturday when they entertain 2nd
place Llanrhian before finishing the season in what coule be a
relegation decider at Narberth III.
Star Man - James Skeels - The youngster pitched in with two wickets and was second highest run scorer for Lamphey

Lamphey
II find themselves bottom of division 5 after this latest defeat
to high fliers Johnston as they went down by 104 runs on saturday.
On
winning the toss Lamphey invited Johnston to bat. The visitors closed
their innings on 160 for 7 off 40 overs. Only S James coming to terms
with the Lamphey bowling as he remained undefeated on 82. Lamphey
skipper Skeels returned 3 for 39, Hadyn Cole 2 for 26 off 12 and Andrew
Dodds 2 for 34. Jamie Oatley took his first catch as a Lamphey
player.
If Lamphey were to have any chance of chasing a score of 160 much
responsibility rested on the senior players, however as has been the
problem for much of the season the 2nd XI rely heavily on one or two
players scoring the runs. With only 3 people reaching double figures it
was no suprise that Lampheys' assault on the total fell over 100 runs
short as skipper Skeels (12), James Skeels (13) and Geoff Daye, with
his highest ever score (12) put up any resistance.
With both Burton and Herbrandston picking up unlikely victories at the
weekend, Lamphey now go into the last 3 games of the season knowing
that they are going to have to win at least one if not two games to
stay up.
Star Man - Geoff Daye - Achieved his highest score ever to give the Lamphey total some respectability
LAMPHEY II v CAREW III 14/7/07
Match Sponsors
Lamphey
II held out for a draw at home to Carew IIIs on saturday having Maldwyn
Llewellyn and Chris Forth to thank for denying Carew a 4th win of the
season.
With
skipper Skeels winning the toss the home side found Carew a tough side
to break down as the usually succesful pairing of Skeels and Griffiths
had a quite day with the ball. Skeels taking 1 for 14 off his allocated
12 overs, Griffiths unable to add to his tally of 10 for the season.
As the game progressed 5 of the 7 Carew players who batted
reached double figures, most notably H Brock who made 35 and R Cope 19.
Lamphey did take 6 wickets however and its good to know that when
Skeels and Griffiths dont sweep aside the opposition Lamphey have
bowlers capable of doing so in the form of Andrew Dodds who picked up 3
wickets and Chris Forth who took 2 for 10. A special mention also to
Geoff Daye - stand in keeper for the absent Tim Bourne - who took
his 1st catch of the season and to young Nathan Mounter in his 2nd game
for the Club who had a well taken catch. After 40 overs Carew had
reached 135 for 6.
With several first choice openers absent from the side the usually
reliable Skeels opened the batting with his son James, unfortunately,
Skeels senior was unable to repeat his run gathering of recent weeks
and departed for 4, Skeels junior made 2. This brought about the days
most productive pairing in the form of Griffiths and Dodds who took the
score past the 50 matk scoring 26 and 24 respectively in the process.
However once both players departed no other player managed to reach
double figures although Guisseppe TriMarco (9) and Mark Craven (7)
contributed to the Lamphey total and as the overs ticked by Carew
sensing the win hadn't counted on a stubborn resitance from the Lamphey
numbers 10 and 11. With several overs still remaining to remove either
Forth or Llewyellyn, both bravely defended their ends and Lamphey held
on for their first draw of the season. A major morale booster as
Lamphey batted their full compliment, picking up all important points
which may well decide which division they play their cricket next
season.
Star Man - Andrew Dodds - Performed with both bat and ball to help Lamphey to a draw

THE
HOPE INN
Skipper
Andrew Skeels inspired a youthful Lamphey seconds side to an
all
important 46 run victory after performing with both bat and ball in
this basement battle.
With
Lamphey batting
first it was important that the visitors set a testing total for the
home side. Skipper Skeels in good form this season with both bat and
ball continued to plunder runs in this division 5 encounter. In
testament to his determination he contributed 61(his first 50 of the
season) of the 96 runs with no other Lamphey player scoring above 3. Mr
Extras contributed 23 as Lamphey closed on 96 all out. For the home
side D John took 4 for 23 and A McClelland 2 for 12.
In repsonse to the 2nds total it soon became obvious that 96 was to be
a testing total. With the in-form Skeels and the experienced Jason
Griffiths the 2nds soon had
the
home side in all sorts of problems. Both bowlers dealt with the home
batsmen almost by themselves as Skeels picked up 7 for 28 off 10 overs
(including two catches off his own bowling) whilst Griffiths took 3 for
17 off 9 overs dismissing the home side for a lowly 50 to seal
their 4th victory of the season and more importantly another step
towards securing their place in Div 5 next season.
Obvious praise for Skeels and Griffiths, however possibly just as
important was the 5 players the 2nds were able to field with confidence
under the age of 14 and what can only be seen as an important nucleus
for the future.
Star Man - Andrew Skeels
- Led from the front to see his side home to an all
important victory.

Lamphey II
XI fielded possibly their strongest side of the season at home to
Narberth III on saturday. The home side were boosted by the inclusion
of Wayne Shanklin, Jonathan Edwards and Jason Griffiths but
the type of game that was about to unfold, as
Lamphey registered their 3rd win of the campaign, could not be
foretold.
Having been asked to
bat first Lamphey must have been rueing the fact that the decision had
not been theirs as a wet wicket is more often than not the friend of
the bowler. This rang true as Lamphey failed to adapt to the conditions
and a combination of bad shots and a wet wicket meant that not one
player managed to reach double figures as the home side were skittled
out for a lowly 51. In fact only Andrew Skeels (9), Wayne Shanklin (9)
and Jon Mathias (7) managed to score above 6.
Narberth IIIs would obviously been cock a hoop at this time, predicting
an easy win, however they hadnt banked on the opening attack of Skeels
and Jason Griffiths. The match as a contest was over as early as the
13th over as the visitors failed to reach 51. A combination of top
bowling and tight fieding with catches being snapped up resulted in
Narberth being dismissed for a very sorry 35. Skeels finishing with
excellent figures of 4 for 16, whilst Griffiths turned in even better
figures of 6 for 19.
A 3rd victory of the season for the 2nd XI who like their 1st XI
counterparts have struggled for a settled side, however another 2 or 3
victories should ensure that they have done enough for another season
in the 5th Division. They entertain Llechryd at home on saturday in a
game where they will want revenge for the narrow 3 wicket defeat
encountered on the opening day of the season.
Star Man - Jason Griffiths - showed that he still has the ability to be a matchwinner with his impressive bowling figures.

A
Lamphey 2nd XI shorn of 4 of their regulars due to their call up to the
1st XI, travelled to top of the table Johnston on saturday.
With Skipper Skeels losing the toss he was invited to bat and it wasnt
long before the home side had underlined their early season dominance.
Only the skipper managed to tame the bowling attack with a score of 27
and Andrew Dodds in at number 3 contributed 12 as wickets tumbled at
regular intervals. Lamphey closed their innings on 69 possibly a good
50-100 runs short of what would have been a testing total.
However Skeels underlined his own form to make a Johnston side full of
confidence have the odd jitter as he took two wickets, Chris Forth
chipped in with 1 and a Gethin Llewellyn run out meant they home side
lost 4 wickets chasing a score and completed the day on 70 for 4.
Although not the right result the 2nd XI are showing more fight this
season and once availability picks up will be hoping to finishing the
season in mid table safety.
Star Man - Andrew
Skeels
- Continues to lead from the front with his 17th and 18th wicket of the
season and first to pass 100 runs for the season in the 2nd XI.
LAMPHEY II v BURTON III

Lamphey 2nds
have managed to
do something that their 1st XI counterparts have yet to achieve - they
won their 2nd game of the season. After two seasons of despair, where
some even questioned whether the Club could or should field a
2nd
team, hopefully the Club has responded with a resounding was a
resounding yes. The team on saturday also showed a blend of youth and
experience which saw no less than 5 of the team being under the age of
17.
On the pitch, Burton were invited to bat and it wasnt long before one
of the elder members of the side had them in all sorts of trouble. With
Skipper Andrew Skeels weaving his magic and picking up 6 wickets in the
process, it was left to Jason Griffiths and Lewis Haines (2 wickets
apiece) to skittle a Burton III's side who were relegated last season
alongside Lamphey out for a paltry 67 within 20 overs.
In reply however things werent quite so plain sailing as Jonathan
Mathais departed for a 2nd ball duck and skipper Skeels was adjudged
LBW for 5. This early setback brought youngster Lewis Haines and Barry
Dillworth to the crease, who then went about dismantling the Burton
bowling with Lewis scoring 31 (including 2 sixes) and Dillworth 28 Not
out in quick fashion. Haines was a a 3rd Lamphey victim with 4 needed
but the innings and victory was wrapped up in only 9 overs as Lamphey
raced to a satisfying 7 wicket victory.
Star Man - Lewis
Haines - Just shades his skipper for the award with an all
round display to underline the potential has

Lamphey
2nds made the long trip to Llechryd with several of
their regular players missing due to other committments, however on a
positive
note it did give Lamphey the opportunity for Lamphey to give 5
new players their debut.
Batting
first Lamphey began positively with Skipper Andrew
Skeels and Tim Bourne opening the innings, however the first wicket
fell with
Bourne on 3. Batting at 3 Andrew Dodds struck up a partnership with
Skeels,
before skeels fell to a sharp stumping off the bowling of Llewelyn for
16.
Dodds then contimued to push the score along with teenager James
Skeels.
However after this pairing succumbed – Dodds for 13 and
Skeels for 12, the
remaining 6 batmsen could only muster 8 runs between them. 10 man
Lamphey were
bowled out for a low total of only 51 as McHugh took 5 wickets and
Llewelyn
2
Llechryd
in response had little answer early on from the
opening attack of Skeels senior and Skeels junior, Senior bowling his
slow left
arm round and Junior bowling his off spin and wickets continued to
tumble
regularly with Llechryd being 32 for 7 at one stage. Skeels Senior
turning in
respectable figures of 4 for 17 off 11, and Junior bowling his maximum
5 over
spell for just 14 runs whilst claiming two wickets. Llechryd must be
thankful
for their victory as B Graham scored 24 not out to ensure a 3 wicket
win. Chris
Forth marked his debut taking 1 for 9 off 4 and fortune 0 for 8 off 2.
Although
this was a defeat, the seconds will take confidence
in the knowledge that the coming weeks should see half a dozen or so
players return
to action.
Star Man - Andrew Skeels, Top
scored with 16 then took 4 wickets to give Lamphey a glimmer
of hope
